The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), an agency officially run by US government which is responsible for all of United States space program, aeronautics and aerospace research now has an official Instagram account according to an official press release by NASA.
NASA is already extremely active on social media and has a strong presence with around 2.2M page likes on its official Facebook Page, nearly 5M followers on twitter (more than any other federal agency account on Twitter) and 0.65M users have them in their circles on Google+. NASA is also active on YouTube, Flickr, Foursquare, Reddit and other social media sites.
NASA which already is very active on social media has a strong presence than any other federal agency. It looks to provide a comprehensive view of the agency by sharing new historic images and videos related to astrophysics, Earth science, human spaceflight and more on its instagram account.
NASA’s first post on Instagram is a picture of how the earth looks from the moon.
NASA Press Secretary, Lauren Worley said in a statement
“We’re constantly looking to expand our social media portfolio to include tools that will best tell NASA’s story of exploration and discovery,”. “Instagram has a passionate following of users who are hungry for new and exciting photos. We believe we have some of the most engaging images on and off the planet — and we can’t wait to engage with Instagrammers.”
NASA already has more than 35000 followers with in 24 hours of being on Instagram and is being well received by the followers with the engagement on its photo & video posts so far.
