Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) in its bid to improve its e-ticketing service has taken yet another major step, as it launches the much awaited official app on Android today. The users are allowed to book and cancel tickets, check PNR status and more importantly the first time users can register from with in the app. The app which is 12 MB in size runs on android 4.1 or later.
The android version of IRCTC comes after an year of the launch of its windows version which was launched in partnership with Microsoft in 2013. Though there are multiples of android users for every windows phone user in the country, the IRCTC’s android version has hit the app market an year later than its windows version.
However, the new look Indian Railways under the leadership of the Railway Minister, D.V. Sadananda Gowda has done appreciable amount work in improving the e-ticketing system and the Indian Railways as a whole in its tenure of four and half months so far. Indian Railways under congress rule for 10 years remained dud for the most part as not many noticeable improvements were done in their tenure.
IRCTC is also running Google’s Admob ads on its android app, is the government really trying to make money out of the ads? 😀
